Community Risk Reduction

This event is hosted by the North Dakota Public Information Officer Association (NDPIO).

If you’ve ever had the “hair-on-fire” colleague rush into your office, or taken a call from a demanding citizen fixated on an odd request, or faced much worse – you know it takes some special skills to bring calm to the storm. In February, Lt. Adrian Martinez will give us some practical ways to communicate with those who are dealing with mental health illnesses or experiencing a crisis. His comedic personality and common sense approach comes through in his presentation called “De-Escalation: Persons in a Crisis.”

Lt. Adrian Martinez has been in law enforcement for over 12 years. He serves as the Training Director for the North Dakota Highway Patrol at the North Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy. Lt. Martinez has a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of North Dakota. He has various certifications, including de-escalation instructor training through the Police Executive Research Forum.

This training is open to everyone, regardless of being a member of NDPIO.
