Application for Acceptance of Plans
The following application is provided for contractors and the general public to help in conforming to applicable Fire Code requirements. Submit the forms to the local fire authority having jurisdiction, or, if no local authority, to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Fire protection system plans must be submitted for acceptance prior to installation. Applications for installation in the following local Fire Department/Districts (FD) should be directed to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ): Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Mandan, Minot City FD/Minot Rural FD, West Fargo, Southern Valley and Williston. For all other jurisdictions, submit the application and plans to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
Application for Acceptance of Plans
All applicable documents necessary or review to the International Fire Code and referenced codes/documents (i.e. shop drawings, calculations, voltage drops, equipment list, equipment data sheets, sequence of operation, legend/key, project information, etc Referenced documents NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 13, NFPA 17A, NFPA 72, NFPA 2001, etc. have full list of plan submittal contents for each type of system.
- Location and legal identification (address and lot or parcel number) of the lot or site.
- Legal boundaries of the site, including reference to source or survey.
- Location of significant buildings or the lot or site and adjacent lots or sites.
- Location and proximity to proposed dispenser.
- Location of the nearest public roadways, site access, underground and overhead utilities, north arrow and topographical features.
- Proposed container location with respect to buildings, building openings, lot liens, public roadways and underground or overhead utilities.
- Container dimensions, capacity, and container compliance markings.
- Details of container, foundation, supports and anchors.
- Arrangement of valves and piping, means for protecting valves from tampering.
- Specifications for containers, valves, piping, tank mounts and pads and other related equipment and appliances.
- Indicate any specific approvals/listings/specific design notes for the tank (i.e. UL 2085, UL 2080, UL142).
- Site security (fence, secure valves, alarms, etc.) and vehicle impact protection.
- Fire extinguisher size and location.
- Location and legal identification (address and lot or parcel number) of the lot or site and proximity to nearest population base (i.e. town/city).
- Location and proximity to proposed dispenser.
- Location of the nearest public roadways, site access, underground and overhead utilities, north arrow and topographical features.
- Proposed container location with respect to buildings, building openings, lot lines, public roadways and underground or overhead utilities.
- Tank new or used (if used, then must be pre-approved by ND State Boiler Inspector prior to State Fire Marshal review).
- Container dimensions, capacity, and container compliance markings (e.g., ASME, DOTn, API), manufacturer, manufacture date, etc.
- Details of container, foundation, supports and anchors.
- Arrangement of valves and piping, means for protecting valves from tampering.
- Specifications for containers, valves, piping, tank mounts and pads and other related equipment and appliances.
- Site security (fence, secure valves, alarms, etc.) and vehicle impact protection.
- Fire extinguisher size and location.
- Fire Safety Analysis if tank is being installed within one mile proximity to a population center (town, neighborhood, school building, etc.).
