By Nick Fetting, Deputy Fire Marshal
I am Nick Fettig, Deputy Fire Marshal out of the Jamestown office.
I was introduced to firefighting in 2020 when I started volunteering with Jamestown Rural. From the beginning, I’ve been in love with the intricacies of the fire service. I knew I wanted to grow in the fire industry and work with and learn from as many agencies as I could.
I joined the Fire Marshal’s Office in May of 2024. It’s been really exciting to go from firefighting to prevention and investigating. Since May, I have earned my Fire Investigator Technician certification and my Fire Inspector I, and I am continuing to work toward my Fire Inspector II.
I am enjoying working with the growing technology the SFM utilizes. My favorite tool is the portable X-ray machine. Working with the Fire Marshal’s Office gives me the opportunity to work with so many communities and build a connection not only with my local fire departments but with fire departments across the state of North Dakota. I enjoy the challenge of having an issue that needs to be addressed by one of our departments and being able to be a resource to help solve a problem.
